Clemson Challenge – Schedule of Events

CLEMSON, SC – The Tiger track & field program will play host to Auburn, Georgia and Miami (FL) on Saturday at the Clemson Challenge, held at the school’s indoor complex. The meet, which features three preseason top-25 women’s teams and two top-25 men’s programs, will get underway at 11:00 AM with field events and 12 PM with track events.

Clemson is No. 5 in the women’s preseason computer rating, released last week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Auburn is No. 7, while Miami is No. 25 in the women’s ratings. On the men’s side, Auburn enters the weekend with a No. 11 rating and Georgia is No. 14 in the preseason. In all, every men’s team competing this weekend is rated 53rd in the nation or higher and every women’s team is 49th or higher.

The Clemson women are off to a good start this season. On Tuesday, sophomore Jasmine Edgerson was named ACC Performer-of-the-Week after clocking some of the best times in Clemson history in both the 60m dash and 60m hurdles. Edgerson ran a 7.37 in the 60m dash, currently third-best in the nation according to the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). Her hurdle time (8.40) is fifth-best nationally and No. 6 in Clemson history.

Several other females on Clemson’s team are ranked among the nation’s best, according to TFRRS. Briana Johnson and Monique Gracia are eighth and 10th, respectively, on the national 60m hurdles performance list. Clemson’s 4x400m relay team has run the fifth-best time in the nation so far this season as well.

Some of Clemson’s top athletes have yet to compete in their best events. Brianna Rollins, reigning ACC Indoor Freshman-of-the-Year, has not competed in the 60 hurdles or 200m dash through two meets. Stormy Kendrick, one of the nation’s top sprinters, has yet to compete in the 60 or the 200. Both will be in action this weekend.

On the men’s side, sophomore Michael Kopanski is tied for 12th on the TFRRS list.
