Clemson to Host 2020 NCAA Men's Golf Regional

Clemson, S.C.—The Clemson men’s golf program was chosen on Tuesday to serve as host institution for a 2020 NCAA Regional Championship.   The tournament will be played at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls course in Salem, S.C. May 18-20, 2020. It is the first time Clemson has served as host of an NCAA golf tournament.

“This has been a long time coming,” said Head Coach Larry Penley, who is in his 34th year as Clemson head coach. “We are really excited to get the bid to host. We put in a bid to host in 2019, 2020 and 2021 and we got 2020.

“When we started the Clemson Invitational we hoped it would show the NCAA committee that we could host a regional at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls. The staff there has done a great job and so has our staff at Clemson. It is good for golf in the state of South Carolina and of course for our program. If you are selected to the tournament and your are a host school, then you play at home.”

Clemson has played in the NCAA Regional every year since the regional format began in 1989.   Penley has guided the Tigers to seven regional championships, more than any other coach.  The Tigers have advanced to the national tournament 21 times in 28 regional tournament appearances.

The Tigers are ranked 15th in the nation this year and have won a school record tying six tournaments. Clemson begins play in the ACC Tournament at Musgrove Mill in Clinton, S.C. on Friday.
