Clemson, S.C.—The Clemson women’s golf team returns to the course on Saturday at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla.  J.T. Horton’s Tigers will compete October 4-6  against a 17-team field that includes six top 25 teams, including the host school Oklahoma Sooners who finished fourth in the nation last year. The tournament will be played at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla, a par 70 layout that is 6082 yards in length. Arkansas is the highest ranked team in the field with a number-six national ranking.  Other top 25 teams in the field include Mississippi State, UCF, Texas A&M and LSU.  Other ACC teams in the field are Florida State and Notre Dame. Clemson will bring a five-person team that includes four sophomores and a freshman.  Lauren Salazar has been the top player in terms of stroke average so far, as the native of California has a 75.33 average for her six rounds.   Jessica Hoang is second on the team with a 75.67 average.  Her season includes a 68 in the second round of the year at the Cougar Classic, not only the low round of the year, but it tied the Clemson record for an 18-hole score. Marisa Messana will be the only freshman in the lineup, and she has a 77.17 average for her six rounds so far this year.  Sloan Shanahan is a returning All-ACC player who has a 77.33 stroke average, fourth on the team so far, but the sophomore was Clemson’s top player in the most recent tournament with a 225 score.   McKenzie Talbert, a starter last year, who has played as an individual so far this year, will return to the lineup this weekend.
