Clemson to Compete in ACC Championships

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s track and field team will compete at the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Apr. 19-20 in Charlottesville, VA. The Tigers are in search of their 11th ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championship. The 2002 Tiger track and field team will also be trying for its third consecutive ACC Outdoor title.

At the 2001 ACC Championship in Orlando, FL, the Tigers claimed their 10th overall and second consecutive ACC outdoor title. Clemson tallied 189 total points to defeat Florida State, who was the runnerup with 183 points. Virginia finished third with 108 points, while North Carolina was fourth with 97.50. Wake Forest posted a fifth-place finish with 84.50 points and NC State was sixth with 78.50 points. Georgia Tech took seventh (44), Duke was eighth (22.50) and Maryland finished ninth with 12 points.

Seniors Todd Matthews, Ato Modibo and Doug Ameigh are each looking to add to their ACC outdoor titles. Matthews looks to become only the third hurdler in ACC history to win three consecutive titles in the 110m hurdles. Modibo will be competing for his third 400m ACC title. Ameigh is a seven-time All-ACC honoree and a three-time ACC Champion in the high jump.
