Clemson Tied for 10th after First Round of Administraff Augusta State Invitational

Clemson, SC-Kyle Stanley fired a one-under par 71 and Sam Saunders had an even par 72 to lead Clemson to a 296 team score and a 10th place standing in the 18-team Administaff Augusta State Invitational on Friday. It was the first of three rounds and 54 holes for the event that is being played at the par 72 Champions Retreat in Evans, GA.

UCLA has the team lead wit ha 284 score. The Bruins, North Carolina (-2) and Lamar (-1) were the only teams to score under par on Friday. Seven of the top 25 teams in the nation are competing in the national tournament. Clemson could have finished higher in the standings had its five players not played the 18th hole in a combined five over par.

Stanley’s round of 71 included four birdies and three bogeys. He had nine hole scores of 35-36 and is tied for ninth in the individual standings. Saunders even par round included four birdies and four bogeys and his is in a tie for 16th place He played holes 4-15 in three under par. David May had a bogey on the final hole, but shot a two over par for the day. The junior had three bogeys and one birdie to rank third among Clemson players on Friday.

Zack Siefert and Phillip Mollica had seven over par scores of 79. Siefert was the top Clemson player at the Furman Invitational with a fourth place finish, but he had a double bogey on the final hole on Friday. Mollica, who has been Clemson’s top golfer this spring, was four over par after four holes.
