Clemson Takes Down South Carolina, 3-1, on Friday

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson volleyball team defeated South Carolina, 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21), on Friday night in a spring exhibition match. The Tigers used a balanced attack to take down the Gamecocks, who defeated Clemson, 3-0, in the 2012 regular season in Columbia. Clemson improved to 3-0 this spring in exhibition matches. 

Four Tigers tallied double-figures in kills, led by Karis Watson’s 16. Kalah Jones added 14 to go with 10 digs, Mo Simmons had 12 kills and 12 digs, and Beta Dumancic had 11 kills and four blocks. Defensively, Watson led all players with six block assists, while Dumancic and Hannah Brenner had four apiece. Simmons and Lou Davis had 12 digs to lead the Tigers, while Niki Collier and Jones each added ten.

Brenner had 41 assists in leading the offense, and added nine digs.

Clemson hit .242 in the match while holding the Gamecocks to .196. The Tigers also had more kills (58-54), aces (3-2), and blocks (10.0-9.0)

The Tigers will close spring play next weekend in a home tournament. They’ll play host to Georgia State and USC Upstate at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
