Clemson Swimming & Diving Speeds Through Thursday Morning Session

Chapel Hill, NC – Looking to move up from their sixth place position, the Clemson Women’s Swimming and Diving team came up with some big swims to try and move up in tonight’s finals. The Lady Tigers participated in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, and 50 freestyle, from Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, NC.

Cassy LaRussa (4:52.19) qualified third for tonight’s finals in the 500 freestyle to start the morning off for the Lady Tigers. Summer O’Donnell (4:55.56), and Toni Kroll (4:58.04) pitched in by qualifying 10th and 15th for the consolation finals, respectively. Leading the way for Clemson in the 200 IM was freshman Katrina Obas. Obas (2:03.11) recorded the fourth fastest time in Clemson history in the event to qualify eighth for the finals. In the final event of the morning, the 50 freestyle, Rachel Regone swam a career best time of 22.85, and will be the top seed heading into tonight. Senior Kallie Deters (23.40), fresh off of her Performer-of-the-Week honors against Duke also had a career best time in the event.

The action will continue as the men’s three-meter diving competition will begin at 1:00. The women’s one-meter diving is scheduled for 2:30, and will be followed by the finals of the men’s three-meter. The Lady Tigers will swim the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and 200 freestyle relay in the championship finals starting at 7 p.m. tonight.
