Clemson, SC – The Clemson Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams will travel to Chapel Hill, NC this weekend for the 2006 Nike Cup. The Tigers will look for a similar result from last year as the men’s team took home the title, and the women’s team placed third. The three day meet will start tomorrow and be held at North Carolina’s Koury Natatorium. There will be a morning preliminary session that will begin at 10 am, and will be followed with finals that will start at 6 pm. The top 20 in each event will participate in the night session.
The Lady Tigers are 3-4 (2-3 ACC) as they approach the mid-season meet. Sophomore Michelle Parkhurst has led the way for Clemson in the early going, sweeping both the 100 and 200 backstroke in each meet. The men’s team is 4-2 (2-2 ACC) so far, with their only losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents Florida State and Virginia.
Among the teams participating in the Nike Cup will be East Carolina, Florida State, James Madison, Kentucky, Division II power Kenyon, Miami (FL), North Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech.
