Clemson Swimming & Diving Hosts Duke In Final Home Meet Saturday

Feb. 2, 2007

Clemson, SC- The Clemson Swimming & Diving teams will host their final dual meet of the season Saturday as the Duke Blue Devils will come to McHugh Natatorium. With a win, both teams will clinch a .500 record or better in the ACC, something that hasn’t been done by Clemson since 1995-96. The Clemson men’s team used a big meet by Mark Vahle last week to fly by N.C. State 177-123. Their record on the season is now 8-3 (3-3 ACC). The Lady Tigers also cruised to victory a week ago as they defeated the Wolfpack, 168-131. Clemson’s women’s team is now 9-5 (3-4 ACC) with just one meet to go.

Last year, Clemson men’s team defeated Duke 144-132 in Durham and improved to 19-15 all-time against the Blue Devils. Clemson has not lost to Duke since the 1978-79 season, stringing together 13 straight victories. These two teams met for the first time in 1954.

On the women’s side, the Lady Tigers have won meets in each of the last two season’s against Duke, including a 153.5-129.5 decision last year. Overall, Clemson has never lost to the Blue Devils, winning all 14 of their meetings since 1979.

The meet time is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. The meet will be broadcast live on the Internet via ACC Select and can be viewed by clicking on the link below.
