Clemson Swimming and Diving to Open Dual Meet Season at Davidson on Saturday

Oct. 1, 2009

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams will travel to Davidson, NC Saturday, October 3 for their 2009-10 dual meet season opener against the Davidson Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. at the Baker Sports Complex.

Head Coach Christopher Ip will lead the Tigers against John Young’s Wildcats. The Clemson women have a 7-0 record all-time against Davidson, while the men will look to take the edge in their all-time record as they are tied 14-14. The Tigers have won nine straight over the Wildcats and are 6-0 under Ip. Clemson took both match-ups last season as the men won 186-99, and the women won 196-103.

The men’s team returns 16 members from last season’s team with 11 of those being sophomores. They are lead senior Thomas Recko who was the ACC runner-up last year in the 200 backstroke. On the women’s side, they lost a large senior class but have combated that with a 25th ranked recruiting class by collegeswimming.com. They are returning senior Alexandra Allen who earned Honorable-Mention All-American last season, along with senior Katrina Obas who is the school recorder holder and ACC Finalist in the 100 breaststroke.

This will also be the season opener for the Davidson Wildcats also. The men’s and women’s teams finished second in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association conference championships last season for the Wildcats. Sophomore Curtis Chaney was named most outstanding freshman after winning four events in the conference championships.

After the meet against Davidson, the Tigers will face conference opponents Georgia Tech and Miami (women) along with Western Kentucky in Atlanta, GA on October 10 at 11:00 a.m.
