Jan. 2, 2006

Fort Pierce, FL- The Clemson Swimming and Diving teams will face the Kentucky Wildcats Tuesday morning at 8:30 in Fort Pierce, Florida. The Tigers and the Wildcats both competed at the Nike Cup in November. At the Nike Cup, the Tiger men finished first, while the Kentucky men’s team ended up fourth. On the women’s side, Clemson finished fourth, just 11 points behind Kentucky who was third.

Clemson men’s team enters the meet with a 2-2 (1-2 ACC) dual meet record. They will look to go 2-0 against the SEC after defeating rival South Carolina earlier in the year. The Tigers are led by sophomore Mark Vahle who recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 19.96 in the 50 free. This will be Clemson’s third meet against a nationally ranked opponent. They lost to #13 Virginia and #14 Florida State earlier in the year.

The Lady Tigers are 0-4 (0-3 ACC) early in the year. They will try to get their season turned around after a strong showing at the Nike Cup. The women are led by defending ACC Champion Kim Routh. Routh has won the 500 free and the 1000 free in every meet this season. Clemson has also turned to their freshmen class for big swims this season. Michelle Parkhurst, Rachel Regone, and Cassy LaRussa have all recorded wins in their individual events during the dual meet season.
