Clemson Swimming and Diving Sweeps Yellow Jackets, Eagles

Atlanta, GA- The Clemson Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams went on the road for their first victories of the season Saturday from the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, GA. The men’s team beat Georgia Tech by a final score of 164-134 to improve to 1-1 (1-1 ACC) on the season. The Lady Tigers used their depth to sweep three events as they beat Georgia Tech 171.5-94.5 and Boston College 206-76. The women’s team catapulted their record to 2-1 (2-1 ACC) with the two wins.

The men made a statement on the opening event of the meet as they took the top two spots in the 200 medley relay. Jay Crout, Attila Ruszka, Stewe Fekete, and Attila Ruszka and Attila Ruszka took the win in the 200 IM for the second straight meet (1:52.96), and then the team of Balderston, Russell, Farnham, and Vahle closed out the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:05.52). David Giambra placed second on both the one-meter (257.85) and three-meter boards (285.10).

The Lady Tigers started off the meet in similar fashion as the team of Ashley Clay, Alexandra Barsanti, Jen Grove and Rachel Regone combined with Ashley Clay (58.70), and Rachel Regone (23.76), Rachel Regone captured another victory, this time in the 100 freestyle (52.18). The Lady Tigers sealed the victory as Katrina Obas (2:21.47) won the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke, respectively. Obas (2:07.26), Cefalu (2:11.52), and Carmen Groenewoud (2:11.85) swept the last event of the meet for Clemson, the 200 IM.

Both Tiger teams will next be in action as they travel to Charlottesville, VA for a two day meet against Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Penn State on October 27-28.
