Clemson Sweeps NC State Volleyball

RALEIGH, N.C. – Jodi Steffes led a balanced Clemson attack with 11 kills and just one error, and the Tigers had a .390 team hitting percentage to defeat NC State in an Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball match Sunday at Reynolds Coliseum. Clemson won by scores of 30-21, 30-24 and 30-17.

Clemson, which won their first conference match of the season, improved to 5-8 overall and 1-5 in the ACC. The Tigers snapped a five-match losing streak with the victory. NC State fell to 5-8 overall and 1-6 in the ACC.

Steffes, who leads Clemson with 196 kils this season, led a team effort for the Tigers against the Wolfpack. Leslie Finn and Ryane Beasley had nine kills apiece, and Meredith Kirtland and Lori Ashton had seven and six kils, respectively. No Clemson player had more than two attacking errors, and Steffes (.435), Finn (.333), Kirtland (.583) and Ashton (.357) all had hitting percentages of better than .300.

NC State did not fare as well offensively. Charece Williams led the Wolfpack with 10 kills, and Alison Kreager chipped in with seven kills, a .429 percentage, and a team-high eight digs. Melanie Rowe had seven kills and six digs, and Rebecca Anderson had six kills for the Pack, which hit just .179 as a team.

The Tigers will return to action on Wednesday, October 10 against South Carolina at 7:00 PM in Jervey Gym.
