Clemson Sweeps Maryland 3-0 to Conclude Regular Season in Volleyball

College Park, MD – Clemson rebounded from four consecutive ACC setbacks to post a 3-0 sweep (30-24, 30-25, 30-24) of defending league champion Maryland on Saturday. The Tigers finished the regular season with an 18-13 record, 7-9 in the ACC. Maryland fell to 12-14, also 7-9 in the conference.

Lori Ashton and Leslie Finn combined to lead Clemson in their final home game as Tigers. The two seniors had 43 kills between them, 22 for Ashton and 21 for Finn. With her 21 kills, Finn overtook Robin Kibben for first on Clemson’s single-season record for kills. Kibben had 602 during the 1993 season. Ashton hit .675 for Clemson to lead the offense. The Tigers hit .346 as a team.

Courtney Lawrence had 37 assists, while Meg Steiner contributed four total blocks. Finn had 13 digs to record yet another double-double. Anna Vallinch also had 13 digs for the Tigers.

For Maryland, Sarah Treadwell led the way with 12 kills and 18 digs. Aimee Huddleston had 33 assists, while Stephanie Smith had seven blocks. The Terrapins hit just .176 in the match.

Clemson held a 6-5 lead in game one before scoring 11 of the next 14 points. In the first game, Finn and Ashton combined for 21 kills. In game two, the Tigers trailed 20-19 before putting together six of the next seven points. In the final game, Clemson increased a 22-20 lead to 27-20 and won easily. Brittany Ross had seven kills in the deciding game.

Clemson will now await seeding for the upcoming ACC Tournament, which begins next Thursday in Charlottesville, VA. First round matches will be announced by the conference early next week.
