Clemson Student-Athletes Help Out at Special Olympics for Upstate of South Carolina

May 3, 2011

On Friday, April 30, Clemson University hosted the Special Olympics for the upstate of South Carolina. Athletes from a three-county region arrived at the Rock Norman Track early in the day to compete. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Brad Brownell was the Grand Marshall of the Parade of Athletes. Student-athletes lined the inside of the track to cheer for the Special Olympians as they made their way around.

Alexa Rand, of the Clemson volleyball team, organized an Olympic Village for the participants who visited the different booths to do activities with the student-athletes. Head Football Coach Dabo Swinney and several football student-athletes also were available to talk with the Special Olympians, signing autographs and posing for pictures. The entire volleyball team came out to support Rand in her efforts to organize this event.
