Clemson Spring Game Saturday

April 4, 2002

Clemson, SC – Clemson will hold its annual Spring Football Game Saturday at 1:00 PM at Riggs Field. The contest will close spring practice for Tommy Bowden’s fourth Clemson team.

The event will be held at Riggs Field due to renovations at Clemson Memorial Stadium. Admission to the scrimmage will be free of charge, but will be limited to IPTAY members, Clemson students, faculty, staff and former players. Fans must have an identification to gain admittance. If seats are still available at 1:00 PM, the general public will be admitted until the facility is full. Riggs Field has held as many as 8,000 fans for soccer.

The gates will open at 11:00 AM. Parking will be available at the lots normally used for Clemson soccer matches. That includes the intramural fields adjacent to the Clemson Hoke Sloan Tennis Facility, and the area behind the entrance to the North Upper Deck of Clemson Memorial Stadium.

As is the case with Clemson regular season games, no book bags or large carry bags will be allowed in the stadium. Riggs Field was the home of Clemson football from 1915-41. Both the Clemson men’s and women’s soccer programs call the facility home now. It has been converted to a football field, complete with goalposts, for Saturday’s game.

It will be the first time since the final home game of the 1941 season that the Clemson varsity has played a football game on Riggs Field. The Clemson freshman team played the Duke freshmen team there in 1968.

Clemson will hold a surplus merchandise sale on Saturday at the indoor tennis facility beginning at 10:30 AM. Clemson 2002 football posters will be available free of charge. Clemson Spring Programs will be on sale for $5.

There will also be special halftime presentations to Clemson football award winners and special honorees from the fall and winter sports. Among the honorees will be Clemson All-ACC quarterback Woodrow Dantzler.

The Clemson baseball team will also be in action on Saturday against NC State. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM. Tickets to that game are priced at $5 for adults and $2 for children. The Clemson men’s and women’s track teams will play host to the Clemson Invitational, an event that will go on prior to and after the Spring football game.
