Clemson Sophomore Laura Basadonna Wins Silver Medal at World Rowing U23 Championships

Clemson rower Laura Basadonna won a silver medal for Italy in the Women’s Four at the World Rowing U23 Championships last weekend in Amsterdam.

Basadonna is a rising sophomore at Clemson and is a native of Torino, Italy. She is an economics major. She was a member of the Tigers’ first varsity 8, the ACC Crew-of-the-Year. She was also a 2011 All-ACC team member.

Also competing for Italy was incoming freshman Giulia Longatti who finished fourth in the Women’s Lwt. Quad. Current Tiger Evelyn Toth and former Clemson Rower Bea Saska finished 10th for Hungary in the Women’s Double. Toth is also a rising sophomore from Budapest, Hungary and is a mechanical engineering major.

“I am really proud of all the Clemson rowers that competed this summer at such a high international level,” said Clemson Head Rowing Coach Robbie Tenenbaum. “It is great to see our student athletes welcomed back onto their country’s National Team during the summer, and we are looking forward to welcoming them back to Clemson in a few weeks for the start of another great season here at Clemson.”
