Clemson Sixth after First Round of Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate

Clemson, S.C.—Seniors Carson Young and Austin Langdale both shot even par rounds of 72 to lead Clemson to a 292 team score and a sixth-place standing after the first round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta, Georgia. 

The first two days of the 17-team event that features 11 of the top 25 teams in the nation are being played over the Creekside and Lakeside Courses at the Golf Club of Georgia facility.   Clemson played the more difficult Lakeside Course on Friday and will play the Creekside course on Saturday. 

Clemson finished at four over par 292 on Friday,  third best among the teams that played that course.   No team broke par on the Lakeside Course, while two teams, Oklahoma and Duke, broke par on the Creekside Course.

Young and Langdale are tied for 17^th place at even par 72.  Young had three birdies and three bogeys, while Langdale had four birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey. It was the first round of the year for Langdale, who missed the first three tournaments recovering from summer shoulder surgery.

Freshman Doc Redman and sophomore Bryson Nimmer had scores of two over par 74 and are tied for 30^th.  Redman got off to a rough start and had a four over par 40 on the front nine.  But he made birdie on holes 10,11 and 12 to start the back and finished that nine hole stretch at two under par 34.    Nimmer had four birdies and six bogeys in shooting his 74.

Oklahoma has the team lead at five under par 283, while Duke is second at 285.  Virginia had the top score on the Lakeside Course with a 289, one over par.  Texas shot a 290, Texas A&M was 291 and Clemson 292.  Auburn, Oklahoma State and Stanford all tied for seventh at five over par 293.
