Clemson Set to Host Louisville Thursday and Virginia Tech on Sunday

Clemson Notes:

  • Sophomore Mackenzie Smith scored Clemson’s lone goal in the 1-0 victory over Miami on Friday, Sept. 29. The victory marks the first ACC win for the Tigers this season as they improved to 1-2-1.
  • Freshman Mariana Speckmaier leads the team with five goals and one assist on the year, good for 11 points. Graduate Jenna Polonsky also has 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists), including the game-winner against Indiana on Aug. 20.
  • Also netting goals for the Tigers this season are Jeni Erickson (3), Shannon Horgan (2), Smith (2) and Miranda Weslake (1).
  • Clemson opened the season with six consecutive wins for the first time since 2015.
  • The Tigers rank third in the ACC in goals against average (.62) and fourth in save percentage (.825).
  • Speckmaier is tenth in the conference in goals (5).
  • Sophomore keeper Sandy MacIver has started nine matches in net for Clemson. The Winsford, England native has 26 saves, four shutouts, a goals against average of .78 and save percentage of .788 in her 812 minutes.
  • Speckmaier scored a hat trick against SIUE on Friday, Aug. 18 and became the 15th player in Clemson history to record a hat trick, the eighth to do so in her freshman season and just the second to do so in her first career game.
  • Head Coach Eddie Radwanski hit the 200-career win milestone with the 4-0 win over SIUE to open the season. Through Friday’s win over Miami, Radwanski is 206-110-29 for his career as a head coach.

Louisville Notes:

  • The Cardinals are 7-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the ACC, coming off a 2-3 double-overtime loss against No. 4 Duke.
  • Leading the offense for Louisville is freshman Emina Ekic, who has seven goals and two assists for 16 points.
  • Junior Gabrielle Vincent leads the team with three assists.
  • Gabrielle Kouzelos has started all 12 matches in net for the Cardinals this season. The redshirt freshman keeper has 30 saves, a save percentage of .667 and four shutouts.

Series Notes:

  • Clemson is undefeated against Louisville, with the two teams meeting for the first time last season.
  • The Tigers defeated the Cardinals 1-0 at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium on Oct. 9.

Promotions

  • There will be a Macaroni and Cheese bar for the first 400 students in attendance.
  • The 2016 football National Championship trophy will be on display for photo opportunities at Historic Riggs Field during the match.

Virginia Tech Notes:

  • The Hokies are 6-3-3 overall and 0-2-2 in the ACC, coming off a 0-0 draw with Boston College on Sept. 29.
  • Leading the offense for Virginia Tech are senior Alani Johnson with four goals and freshman Allyson Brown with three goals.
  • Mandy McGlynn has started all 12 matches in net for the Hokies this season. The sophomore keeper has 54 saves, a save percentage of .831 and a goals against average of .86. She was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Week after recording a career high of 11 saves and earning her fifth shutout of the season in the 0-0 double overtime draw against the Eagles.

Series Notes:

  • Virginia Tech has a 6-3-4 record all-time against the Tigers, and the series dates back to 2004.
  • The last regular season meeting between the two teams was a 2-2 double overtime draw on Oct. 1, 2016 at Thompson Field. Julie Mackin scored her third goal of the season in the 65th minute.
  • The last time the two teams met at Historic Riggs Field, the match ended in a 3-2 Tiger victory on Oct. 11, 2015. Horgan scored the game winner in the 84th minute from 25 yards out.
