March 5, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team will open their spring season against Eastern Michigan University on Saturday, March 6 at 9:00 a.m. on Lake Hartwell.

“We look forward to the start of the season,” said Head Coach Richard Ruggieri. “There are many areas we are trying to improve and I expect us to come out a better program.”

Saturday’s regatta will consist of three races of 2000 meters in length. The first race will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the first varsity eight, the second will be at 9:20 a.m. with the third varsity eight and the third race will begin at 9:40 a.m. and the second varsity eight will compete.

Last season the Tigers and the Eagles met in a scrimmage. The Tigers top boat swept the Eagles in all three 1500 meter races, with the second varsity eight finishing second and Eastern Michigan taking third. Clemson’s third varsity eight took first in each of their three races and the novice eight took first in each also.

Following this regatta, the Tigers will host Boston University in a Solid Orange event on Saturday, March 13 at 9:00 a.m. on Lake Hartwell.
