Clemson Rowing to Host Boston University Saturday

March 12, 2010

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson rowing team will host Boston University in a regatta Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. on Lake Hartwell. The teams will compete in five 2000-meter races. This is the first meeting between the two teams.

“We look forward to racing a program as talented as Boston University,” said Head Coach Richard Ruggieri. “They will be well prepared by Coach Rippetoe and I fully expect that our athletes will need to find their best speed to achieve success. We will have the full squad racing including the first sprint race for our novice 8.”

The regatta will consist of five 2000-meter races. The first race will pit Clemson’s varsity eight against Boston’s top team and is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. The next race will feature the second varsity at 9:20 a.m. followed by the varsity four boats at 9:40 a.m. Then the novice eight will take to the water at 10:00 a.m. and the second varsity four will close out the day at 10:20 a.m.

“Training has been intense and more consistent this week, yet we still continue to try different combinations allowing for better team production,” said Ruggieri. “I do like the work-ethic displayed by our rowers and fully expect them to continue to push for more speed.”

The Tigers are coming off of a sweep of Eastern Michigan on March 6 and will look to build on that success this weekend.
