Clemson Rowing Finishes Fifth At San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO, CA – The Clemson rowing team’s Varsity 8+ and Junior Varsity 8+ finished fifth in their respective races today.

The Varsity 8+ team finished fifth in the Jessop-Whittier Cup, defeating Notre Dame and Texas. Southern California, ranked ninth, upset second-ranked Washington, finishing with a time of 6:52.51 while the Huskies finished in 6:53.03. #12 Virginia was third with a time of 7:06.73. California, who is tied for seventh, was fourth with a time of 7:06.9 and the 26th-ranked Tigers were fifth in 7:13.84. #14 Notre Dame followed Clemson with a time of 7:17.43 and 18th-ranked Texas finished seventh with a time of 7:17.64.

Washington won the Junior Varsity 8+ race with a time of 7:05.73 while ACC-rival Virginia was the runner-up (7:07.75). Washington State took third with a time of 7:12.12 and Southern California was fourth (7:12.63). Clemson finished fifth with a time of 7:18.97 and Oregon State was sixth in 7:20.16.

“The Tigers performed really well today, going out against top-ranked teams,” said head coach Susie Lueck. “Clemson had solid performances to cap off an exciting weekend of racing. We built some confidence heading into the challenges of the next few weeks.”

Clemson will compete at the Ohio State Invitational next Saturday, Apr. 14. The Tigers will face Iowa, Kansas State and Michigan State at the Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River.
