April 27, 2001

CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson’s novice eight and coxswain four boats competed in the novice championships Friday afternoon on Lake Hartwell. Virginia and Clemson raced in the novice eight while Clemson, North Carolina and Virginia competed in the coxswains’ four race.

Virginia’s novice eight won that race with a time of 6:46.0, while Clemson finished second in 6:57.38. The Tigers’ boat was comprised of coxswain Jennie Goldammer, Kali Spink, Kate Barton, Jill Evans, Leslie Goss, Loran Rogers, Jill Howard, Carrie Sinnott and Chelsea Mylett.

“The rowers did a great job racing despite some heavy wakes,” said assistant coach Kelly Lynch. “I am really pleased with the fact that the team broke seven minutes under the racing conditions, and with the fact that they were competitive with Virginia.”

The second race of the afternoon featured a 500m race with the coxswains from Clemson, North Carolina and Virginia. Once again, Virginia won the race with a time of 2:04.83. North Carolina finished second in 2:19.72 and Clemson was third with a time of 2:21.63. The four rowers for Clemson were Lynn Hall, Gail Cadorniga, Emily Kuivila and Lisa Christopher, and Erin Mickey served as coxswain.

The Tigers will compete in the ACC Rowing Championships tomorrow morning on Lake Hartwell.
