Clemson Rowing Competes Against SMU, Texas

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson rowing team raced against Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas on the final day of the Longhorn Invitational held in Austin, TX, this weekend. The Tigers raced SMU in the morning session and then faced Texas in the afternoon session.

Clemson’s first and second varsity 8+ each picked up wins against SMU in Saturday morning’s action. The Tigers’ second varsity 8+ won their race with a time of 6:54.8 while the Mustangs second varsity 8+ boat finished in 7:42.0. Clemson’s first varsity 8+ also picked up the victory with a time of 6:40.5 while SMU finished in 6:56.8. The Tigers’ first novice boat was defeated by SMU who finished with a time of 7:07.4. Clemson completed the race in 7:12.9.

In Saturday afternoon’s race against Texas, Clemson’s second varsity 8+ boat picked up its second win of the Invitational. The Tigers’ finished the race in 6:47.0 while Texas’ second varsity 8+ finished with a time of 6:52.6. Clemson’s novice 8+ boat finished second in that race with a time of 7:08.3 while Texas’ first novice boat won in 7:00.8. The Longhorn’s second novice 8+ boat finished third with a time of 7:24.7. The Tigers’ varsity 8+ boat finished second behind the Longhorn’s varsity 8+ boat with a time of 6:40. Texas won the race with a time of 6:34.3. Clemson’s varsity 4+ boat finished third with a time of 8:13.5 in their race. Texas’ first novice/ varsity 4+ boat won the race in 8:04.3 and the Longhorn’s varsity 4+ boat was second with a time of 8:11.1.

The Tigers will host the Clemson Invitational next Saturday, Mar. 24, at Lake Hartwell. Clemson will face Duke and Tennessee in next weekend’s regatta.
