Clemson Ranked #4 in Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll

Dec. 20, 2010

Clemson, SC –

Clemson is ranked #4 in Collegiate Baseball’s 2011 preseason poll, released on Monday. It marks the 23rd consecutive season that Clemson has earned a preseason top-25 ranking by one of the three major polls. TCU is atop the Collegiate Baseball poll, followed by #2 Florida, #3 UCLA, #4 Clemson, and #5 Vanderbilt. Clemson’s #4 ranking is its highest in the preseason since 2007, when the Tigers were ranked #2 in the country by Collegiate Baseball in the preseason.

Other ACC teams ranked in the top 25 include #13 Florida State, #17 Virginia, #18 Miami (FL), and #19 Georgia Tech, meaning five of the top-19 teams are from the ACC. No other conference has more than four teams ranked in the top 19 of the preseason poll.

The Tigers had a 45-25 overall record and 18-12 ACC regular-season mark in 2010. Clemson won the ACC Atlantic Division title before capturing championships in the Auburn Regional and Clemson Super Regional. The Tigers went 2-2 in the College World Series and finished tied for third in the nation.

Clemson returns 20 lettermen, including preseason All-Americans John Hinson (3B), Brad Miller (SS), and Jeff Schaus (OF). The Tigers will open the 2011 season on February 18 against Eastern Michigan at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
