Clemson Plays Host to Final Home Meet of Season, Third Annual Bob Pollock Invitational

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson track & field program will compete in its final home meet of the 2013 season Friday and Saturday at the third annual Bob Pollock Invitational. On Saturday morning, the Tiger track & field program will honor 15 seniors in a short recognition ceremony immediately following the prelims for the elementary school relays.A handful of distance events and throwing events are scheduled for Friday afternoon, while the majority of the action will take place on the second day of competition. The complete schedule and list of Clemson participants can be found on the attached PDF file.The most recent national polls were released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Tiger women were No. 11 in the national standings for the third straight week. Clemson’s women have been ranked in the top 25 in each of the last 35 outdoor national polls, dating to the 2010 season. The Tiger men’s team is No. 20 in the latest national rankings after debuting at 14th last week.Clemson will try and qualify as many individuals and relays for the NCAA East Preliminary Round (May 23-25 in Greensboro, NC) in the next two weeks. Currently, the Tigers have a slew of student-athletes within the top 48 in individual events. The women’s team currently has 26 qualifiers across 13 individual events, as well as both relays. The men have 20 currently qualified over 12 events, plus the 4×100 relay. The top 24 relays in the East and West qualify for the opening rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Championships.Following the Bob Pollock Invitational, the Tigers will close out the regular season next weekend at two different meets. Some groups will head to Atlanta, GA for the Georgia Tech Invitational, while others will head to Charlottesville, VA for the Virginia Challenge.
