Clemson Men’s Track And Field Team Wins Six Events At Clemson Relays

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s track and field team opened its 2004 outdoor season at the Clemson Relays on Saturday at the Rock Norman Track and Field Complex. The Tigers won six events at the meet, including the 110m hurdles, 4x400m relay, 4x800m relay, 4x1500m relay, triple jump and shot put. Lydell Perry and Derek Gilson qualified for the region meet in the 110m hurdles and shot put, respectively.

On the track, Lydell Perry captured the 110m hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 14.22. Scott Kautz and Scott Kautz, Ibeh and Ahmad Rutherford (3:13.10). The Tigers’ 4x800m relay team of Rutherford, Clay Pendleton won that event in 7:51.04 and Clemson’s 4x1500m relay team of Clark, Ryan Fenton, Wyatt and Matt Pimentel were the top finishers with a time of 16:09.05. In the distance medley relay, Clemson was edged at the finish line, as Wyatt, Warren Eure, Rutherford and Pimentel finished in 10:17.37.

Derek Gilson regionally qualified in the shot put with his winnig mark of 54’2.5″. Gilson also led Clemson in the discus throw with his third-place finish and mark of 163’6″. Danny Alge was the top finisher for Clemson in the hammer throw with a mark of 165’11”, and Clayton Curtis placed third in the javelin with his throw of 179’6″.

The Tigers return to action on Mar. 26-27 at the Raleigh Relays.
