Clemson men’s tennis receives NCAA Bid

CLEMSON, SC-The Clemson men’s tennis team received a bid to participate in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament as announced by the NCAA Wednesday.

The tournament consists of 64 teams and the first two rounds are held on 16 campus sites.

Clemson will play Minnesota in the first round in Durham, NC and the winner of this match will play the winner of the fifth-seeded Duke -Winthrop match. The single-elimination tournament for Clemson will start on either May 14 or May 15. The second round will be on May 15th or 16th The dates and times of the matches will be announced this week. The final 16 teams will play at Tulsa, OK on May 22-25.

The Tigers are 23-11 this season and are led by Jarmaine Jenkins has a 21-15 record this season in singles and Nathan Thompson is 20-19 this year in singles play. Ryan Young is 21-9.

Clemson will play in its 20th NCAA Team Tournament since 1977, the first year that the NCAA went to a team format. Since that time, Clemson has advanced to the Final Sixteen 11 times and the Final Eight six times.

The Tigers have been to the NCAA Tournament 21 of the past 25 seasons. Clemson has an 11-19 overall record in the NCAA Tournament.

Clemson has been to the NCAA Team Tournament more than any other ACC school with 20 appearances.

The fields for the NCAA singles and doubles championships will be released on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.
