Aug. 25, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s soccer team will open its 2011 season on Saturday night (August 27) at 8:00 p.m. (EDT), against Alabama-Birmingham, in Birmingham, AL.

Coach Mike Noonan will start his second season with nine returning starters from last year’s team. Clemson defeated Davidson 3-0 and Winthrop 4-1 in exhibition matches earlier this month.

Alabama-Birmingham finished its 2010 season with a 10-7-1 record. The Blazers return six starters to their line-up from 2010. UAB defeated Belhaven 4-0 and tied Lipscomb 2-2 in exhibition action earlier this month.

The two schools have only met once before in men’s soccer. Clemson defeated the Blazers 3-2 in a NCAA match in 2001 in the round of 16.

The Tigers’ first home match will be against South Carolina on September 2.
