Clemson Men’s Golf In First As Play Suspended In NCAA East Regional Second Round

Moosic, Pa. — Clemson holds a 12 stroke lead among the 24 teams who finished second round play at the NCAA East Regional at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, PA. Play was suspended due to darkness with East Tennessee State, Tennessee and Virginia Commonwealth still on the course. Those three teams will finish up the second round early Saturday morning.

Clemson had a 581 team score through 36 holes, 12 better than second place Georgia Tech, who improved by eight places in the standings from the first round to the second. North Carolina and North Florida are tied for third at 594 and NC State is fifth at 595.

Jonathan Byrd is the top Tiger through two rounds with a 142 score, even par. He is in third place individually. Lucas Glover had a 73 on Friday after finishing with a 70 in the first round. He is in fourth place individually. Clemson’s top golfer on Friday was Augusta, GA native John Engler, who had a 70. He has a 146 total through two rounds and is also in the top 20.

D.J. Trahan made a 13 stroke improvement from day one to day two, as his 74 contributed to Clemson’s 289 team score on Friday, best in the 27-team field. Jani Saari shot a 79 on Friday after an opening round 76.

Play is slated to conclude on Saturday. The top 11 teams in the field will advance to the NCAA National tournament to be played at Auburn May 31 to June 3.
