Clemson Knocks Off UAB 2-1 in Exhibition

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s soccer team hosted UAB Saturday night in the Tigers’ first exhibition contest of the preseason. Clemson won 2-1 at Historic Riggs Field after a full 90 minutes and two, ten minute extra periods.

The Tigers jumped out to the lead in the second half after a clinical finish just outside the box when junior Michael Melvin scored for the Tigers. In the first additional overtime period, the Blazers equalized the score at one.  In the second overtime period with two minutes to play, sophomore Johnny Heckman put away the game winner from 20 yards out on a free kick to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Clemson will be back in action on Tuesday against High Point. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field. The regular season opener for the Tigers is at South Carolina on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. in Columbia.
