Clemson Holds Fourth Preseason Practice

Clemson, SC — Clemson held its fourth straight day of a three-hour practice on Monday on the practice fields behind the Jervey Athletic Center. The Tigers worked in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts. Tuesday the Tigers will be in full pads for the first time.

Jamarcus Grant. Wide receiver Xavier Dye was limited in his participation due to a shoulder injury and was dressed in a green jersey.

Two players sustained injuries during the practice. Wide receiver Jacoby Ford suffered a sprained ankle that was not serious. It was not the ankle he broke last year at Maryland. He will miss a couple of days of practice. Freshman tight end Dwayne Allen suffered a lower abdomen injury, but should be back on Tuesday.

Bowden has been pleased with his team’s progress so far. “We had another good day of practice,” said Bowden. “It was hot, but we got a lot done. We need to do a better job finishing, because we got a little sloppy the last couple of periods. We are all looking forward to going to full pads tomorrow.

“We continue to see the freshman class show they have a chance to make a contribution this year. I have been pleased with all four of our freshman safeties. Spencer Adams has outstanding speed and it is apparent that he can close well on the run and get to the ball when it is in the air. Daniel Andrews, Rashard Hall, and Carlton Lewis have also played well so far.

“Jamie Harper both ran well today and Brandon Thompson did a good job in the cross over drill from his offensive line position. ” Clemson will continue to work every day this week at various times. The team has final exams for summer school on Wednesday, then will start two-a-day practices on Thursday. The team will hold its annual Fan Appreciation Day at Memorial Stadium on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Admission is free.
