Clemson Fourth After Two Rounds At Jerry Pate Intercollegiate

Clemson, S.C. — D.J. Trahan fired rounds of 70-68 to lead Clemson to a fourth-place ranking after two rounds of the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate. Twelve teams from around the nation played 36 holes in perfect weather at The Old Overton Golf Club in Birmingham, AL on Monday.

The Tigers have won this event each of the last four years, but their unprecedented reign could be over. Wake Forest has an 11 shot lead over Oklahoma State and Arizona and a 12 shot lead over Clemson heading into Tuesday’s final round.. The Demon Deacons shot a 555 total for the 36 holes, 13-under par. Oklahoma State and Arizona both fired 566, while Clemson is at 567. Georgia Tech stands fifth at 569, while Texas is sixth at 574.

Trahan, a junior who recently won the Carpet Classic, stands second with a four-under-par 138 figure. He is two shots behind Bill Haas of Wake Forest, who had rounds of 71-65. Clemson’s Gregg Jones is tied for fifth at 139 after consistent rounds of 70-69.

Matt Hendrix and Ben Duncan both shot 145 scores for the first 36 holes. Hendrix had rounds of 71 and 74, while Duncan, playing in his first event in over a month, had rounds of 72-73. Jack Ferguson, a red-shirt freshman who was Clemson’s top performer at The Ridges to open the season, had a 156 score after rounds of 77-79.
