Clemson, S.C.—Alice Hewson and Ana Paula Valdes both made birdies on their last hole to shoot three-under-par scores of 68 and lead Clemson to a 277 team score and a seventh-place finish at the 15-team Schooner Fall Classic at the Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
Hewson finished in a tie for 14th in the field of 81 golfers with a 209 score, with her three round scores of 70-71-68. She made a par on 38 of her 56 holes, the most on the Clemson team for the weekend. On Sunday, Hewson made four birdies and only one bogey.
Ivy Shepherd finished in a tie for 19th in the field thanks to rounds of 69-69-72 for a 210 total. She finished the tournament with a Clemson team best 12 birdies.
Valdes had rounds of 74-73-68 for a 215 total to finish tied for 38th. She had six birdies in her final round, ending the final nine holes at three-under par.
Gracyn Burgess had the best tournament of her young career with a 217 score for the 54 holes after consistent rounds of 73-75-69. She finished in a tie for 44th individually. Alexandra Swayne shot a 75 on Sunday and finished two strokes behind Burgess with a 56 hole total of 219. The freshman had her first career eagle in the first round on Friday on the par 4, 315-yard No. 15.
Clemson returns to the course on Oct. 12 as they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the Ruth Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the Finley Golf Couse.
