Clemson Finishes Play in Georgia Tech Men’s Tennis Fall Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. – Clemson’s Gera Boryachinskiy and Carlos Alvarez won the doubles title in the A Flight at the Georgia Tech Men’s Tennis Fall Invitational Monday.

Boryachinskiy and Alvarez defeated third – seeded Miguel Muguruza and Ryan Smith of Georgia Tech 9 – 8 (7) to claim the A – Flight Doubles title. Boryachinskiy and Alvarez, seeded fourth in the tournament defeated Doug Keeny and Juan Spir of Georgia Tech in the quarterfinal round 8 – 5. Boryachinskiy and Alvarez later upset the top seed in the tournament Borja Malo and Christian Vitulli of Georgia 8 – 3 in the semifinal round.

In singles action on Sunday, Georgia Tech’s Matteo Fago, the number two seed in the tournament, defeated Gera Boryachinskiy 6 – 2, 6 – 1 in the quarterfinal round of the A – Singles draw.

“We continued to gain momentum as a team with this tournament,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen. “Carlos and Gera played solid doubles all weekend. They had good doubles energy, called the right plays, and executed. That is what it takes to win tournaments.”
