Clemson Finishes 17th at Cougar Classic

Clemson, S.C.—Sydney Legacy shot an even-par round of 72 to lead Clemson on Tuesday at the Cougar Classic in Hanahan, SC.  The 21-team event was played at the Yeaman’s Hall Golf Club near Charleston.

Clemson finished in 17th place with a score of 889, 25 over par.   North Carolina won the event with an 838 team score.

Clemson shot eight strokes better on Tuesday than Monday and  all five Tigers shot 75 or better

Alice Hewson, Clemson’s top player and defending co-champion at this event, shot a 74 on Tuesday and finished with a 219 for the tournament, three-over-par.  She had consistent rounds of 73-72-74 and her 219 total was good enough for 34th.

Legacy was Clemson’s top golfer on Tuesday and second best player for the 54 holes.  She finished with a 221 score, tied for 50th in the field of 108 golfers. 

Freshman Ana Paula Valdes shot a 75 on Tuesday to  finish with a 223 score, and a no. 62 finish.  Her top round was the opening round when she had a team best 72.

Marisa Messana had a 74 on Tuesday, her top round of the week.  She finished with a 227 score.  Sloan Shanahan also had her top score with a 74 and she finished at 236. 

Clemson now has a couple of weeks off before competing in the Greenville Regional Preview in Greenville, N.C.
