Clemson Finishes 15th at US Collegiate

ALPHARETTA, GA – Cody Proveaux shot one under par 71 to lead the Clemson golf team on Sunday at the US Collegiate at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, GA. The Tigers finished 15th in the field that included five of the top nine and eight of the top 25 teams in the nation. The tournament concluded Clemson’s fall schedule.

Clemson’s strength of schedule ranked third best in the nation according to Sagarin entering the tournament and it could go to number one after this tournament.

The Tigers, ranked 24th by the Golf World Coaches poll and 21st by Golfweek’s Sagarin rankings entering the event, were led by Stephen Behr with a 219 score. Behr, a sophomore who led Clemson in stroke average last year, had rounds of 72-74-73 on the par 72 layout that has been the site of this event the last eight years.

Sophomore Cody Proveaux struggled to a 10 over par 82 in the first round, then finished strong with rounds of 72 and 71 to close at 225. Sophomore Miller Capps, Clemson’s top player in stroke average entering the event, finished with a 224 after rounds of 74-72-78.

Freshman Carson Young showed improvement each day with scores of 77-75-74 to finish with a 226 aggregate for the 54 holes. Billy Kennerly, playing his first tournament of the year, shot a 238 for the three rounds.

Clemson finished with a tea score of 888 with daily scores of 299, 293 and 296.

Oklahoma State won the tournament at 15 under par by one shot over host school Georgia Tech.
