Clemson Finishes 13th at Insperity Augusta State Invitational

April 1, 2012

CLEMSON, SC – Thomas Bradshaw fired a four-under-par 68 in the third round of the Insperity Augusta State Invitational, but the Tigers finished 13th in the field of 16 teams. The tournament was the first this year for Clemson without Corbin Mills, who will begin play in the Masters this week. Clemson had won its last two tournaments prior to the Augusta State Invitational. The University of Texas, ranked first in the nation, won the tournament.

Bradshaw had quite a comeback for the week. He had an opening round 78 on Saturday, then came back with rounds of 70 and 68 to finish with an even par 216 for the 54 holes. Bradshaw had four double bogeys in his first 19 holes of the tournament, but was eight-under par with 12 birdies over the final 35 holes. He had seven birdies in the second round and five in the final round and a team best 15 for the tournament. He made just one bogey on Sunday and tied for 30th place.

Clemson’s best golfer for the weekend was freshman Billy Kennerly. The native of Alpharetta, GA had rounds of 75-69-70 for a 214 total for the weekend, good enough for 23rd place. He had a two-under-par 70 in the final round. He now has nine under-par rounds in his first year and 13 total rounds at par or better. He has finished in the top 25 in seven of his eight tournaments this year.

Crawford Reeves saw his streak of consecutive rounds at par or better end at eight in a row when he shot a 73 on Sunday, but he did shoot even par for the tournament. His 216 total finished in a tie for 26th place. He finished strong each day, including Sunday when he made birdies on the eighth and ninth holes, his 17th and 18th holes of the day. He shot three-under over his last two holes in the first round when he shot a 72.

Freshman Hayden Garrett, in the lineup in place of Mills, had rounds of 77-75-75 for a 227 total, but his score did count towards Clemson’s team score two of the three rounds. Senior McCuen Elmore had rounds of 75-73-76 and finished with a 223 total, seven-over par.

Clemson will return to the course April 9-10 at The Woodlands Invitational in Houston. Mills will return to the Clemson lineup for the ACC Tournament April 20-22.
