Clemson Family to Help Hurricane Victims

Sept. 2, 2005

Clemson University administrators have designated the American Red Cross to receive all donations collected through campus fund-raising activities for hurricane victim assistance.

At every home football game this season, Red Cross and campus volunteers will staff donation stations at every entrance gate to the stadium, encouraging fans to give generously to help the residents of the Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida coasts who were affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Any faculty, staff or students who wish to volunteer to help with the game-day collections sometime during the season should contact Clemson community service coordinator Jennifer Shurley at 656-0243 or mailto:jshurle@clemson.edu.

This Saturday, Sept. 3, for the Clemson vs. Texas A&M game, donation stations will be set up from the time the gates open at 6:30 p.m. until the start of the game at 8 p.m.

Campus organizations or resident groups who would like to develop or participate in other projects to benefit the Red Cross and hurricane victims should also contact Jennifer Shurley for assistance and information.

Clemson University also is assisting students displaced from colleges and universities in the affected areas. The admissions staff is working with these students on a case-by-case basis to assist them in obtaining housing and academic courses.
