Clemson Falls To No. 23 Wake Forest In Men’s Tennis, 5-2

Clemson, SC — 23rd-ranked Wake Forest won the doubles point and four out of six singles matches to defeat Clemson 5-2 in men’s tennis action on Friday night in Clemson. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 10-14 on the season and 2-4 in the ACC. Wake Forest improves to 15-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

The Demon Deacons got off to a strong start in the match against the Tigers as they won two of the three doubles matches to open the day. Clemson’s duo of Marko Gojanovic and Sander Koning cruised at No. 3 doubles over David Bere and Justin Kaufmann but Wake Forest won at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions to win the point.

In singles play, Wake Forest won four of the six matches on the day. Freshman Sander Koning and junior Micah Thompson picked up the two wins for the Tigers. Koning won at the No. 4 position over Mike Murray in three sets while Thompson won at the No. 5 position in straight sets by a score of 6-2, 6-4. With the win, Koning improved his overall singles record to 22-6 on the year.

The Tigers will next be in action this Sunday when they travel to Durham, NC to take on the 13th-ranked Duke Blue Devils.
