Clemson Fall and Winter Sports Awards Day Is Saturday

April 9, 1999

CLEMSON, S.C.–Over 30 athletes will be recognized for their accomplishments at the Clemson Athletic Fall and Winter sports Award Day Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium prior to the annual Orange-White Spring Football game.

Mal Lawyer was named the football most valuable player on offense, while Chris Jones was named the most valuable player on defense.

Javis Austin was named the Most Valuable Offensive player in the South Carolina game, while teammate Howard Bartley was named the best defensive player in the South Carolina contest.

In women’s basketball, all four seniors, Amy Geren, Itoro Umoh, Natasha Anderson, and Nikki Blassingame were named most valuable players in women’s basketball. This four seniors comprise Clemson’s all-time winningest class in Lady Tiger history. This group led the Lady Tigers to the 1999 ACC Championship and a NCAA Tournament Final 16 apperance.

The men’s basketball award winners and the men’s soccer award winners will be announced later this spring at their respective banquets. The Clemson fall and winter sports award winners follow:
