Clemson Eighth in Latest Polls

Clemson, S.C.—Clemson’s men’s golf team, fresh off a second-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic, is ranked eighth in the nation in the latest national rankings by Golfweek/Sagarin and Golfstat, and 11th nationally by the College Golf Coaches Association.

The three rankings are the highest for the Clemson program in all three polls since May 13, 2009 when Clemson was ranked in the top five nationally in all three.

In addition to the program’s national rankings, the Clemson  schedule is ranked No. 1 in the nation by  both Golfstat and Golfweek.  Clemson has already competed in tournaments against 18 of the other 24 teams in the Golfweek poll and has a 19-16-1 record against those teams head-to-head.

Clemson finished second at the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday, its second second-place finish in a major national tournament this year.   Clemson was second at the Carpet Classic to open the season and also had a third place finish at the U.S. Collegiate in Alpharetta, Georgia in the fall.

Individually, graduate student Stephen Behr is the highest rated Clemson player with a No. 15 ranking by Golfweek/Sagarin.  Austin Langdale, a junior, is ranked No. 40 and  senior Miller Capps is rated No. 73 in the nation.  Behr was Clemson’s top golfer at the Puerto Rico Classic with a fourth-place finish.
