Clemson Downs N.C. State 3-0, Wins Sixth Straight Match

Clemson, SC – The Clemson volleyball team swept N.C. State 3-0 on Friday night in just one hour and 22 minutes. The Tigers improved to 11-4 with the win and 6-1 in conference play. Clemson has now won its last six matches overall after dropping their ACC opener. N.C. State fell to 2-13 with the loss.

The Tigers hit .322 for the match and held the Wolfpack to just .148 hitting percentage as a team. Clemson sophomore Danielle Hepburn had an incredible match with 15 kills and a .652 hitting percentage. She did not have an attack error in the match. Her .652 hitting percentage set a personal best for the Miami, FL native. Meghan Steiner also played well, totaling 11 kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Didem Ege added 16 digs in the match, while Kelsey Murphy had a fine all-around match with 35 assists, seven kills, and two block assists.

The Tigers took the first game by a score of 30-16. With Clemson holding a slim 9-7 lead, the Tigers then rallied for 14 of the next 18 points to put the game away. Consecutive service aces by freshman setter Murphy made the lead 23-11 in favor of Clemson.

In the second game, the Tigers went up on the Wolfpack by a score of 22-17, before pulling away to take the game with nine of the next 11 points overall. The Tigers won game two 30-19. Murphy had kills on each of her four attempts in the second game for Clemson.

Game three saw back-and-forth action for much of the beginning. Clemson led just 17-16 before scoring four consecutive points and six out of eight. The Tigers went on to win the game comfortably, 30-24. The match ended with a solo block from Lia Proctor. Hepburn had seven kills in seven attempts in the final game to propel the Tigers to victory.

The Tigers will return to action Saturday to face North Carolina at 6:00 PM in Jervey Gymnasium.
