Oct. 20, 2007

CHAPEL HILL, NC – Two Tiger doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinals at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships with wins on Saturday.

Both defeated 9-16-seeded teams from Duke at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC.

Clemson’s Ina Hadziselimovic and Alexandra Luc teamed to post an 8-3 upset of #9-16 seed Eliah Nze and Jessi Robinson of Duke. Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem then defeated the Blue Devil tandem of Elizabeth Plotkin and Reke Zslinszlca by an 8-5 margin.

Sunday’s quarterfinals are scheduled to begin at 9:00 am.

The Tigers were not as fortunate in singles action, as all four players were eliminated on Saturday. Laurianne Henry and Van Adrichem were each victorious in the round of 32 before falling in the Sweet 16 later in the day.

Henry rebounded from a loss in the first set to post back-to-back 6-3 victories over Tennessee’s Conner Vogel in the second and third sets to advance to the round of 16. She then fell to Reka Zslinszka of Duke later in the day (6-0, 6-0). Zslinkszka is yet to drop a game in the tournament.

Van Adrichem then won in straight sets in her morning match, defeating NC State’s Lenka Hojckova, 6-4, 6-2. The junior from Amersfoort, The Netherlands was then defeated by Alex Hirsch of Wake Forest in the round of 16 (7-5, 6-2).

In other singles play, Estefania Balda suffered a three-set loss to Amanda Granson of Duke (6-7(5), 6-2, 6-1), while Hadziselimovic fell to the tournament’s #1-seed Catherine Newman of Vanderbilt, 6-3, 6-4.
