Clemson Doubles Team Is Upset Winner

CLEMSON, SC-Clemson’s Jarmaine Jenkins and Nathan Thompson upset Patrick Briaud and Balazs Veress of California 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 in the NCAA Individual Doubles Championships at Tulsa, OK Thursday afternoon.

Briaud and Veress are ranked sixth as a doubles team and are seeded 5-8 in the tournament. Clemson’s duo is ranked 37th as a doubles team by the ITA poll. This is the first time since 1993 that the Tigers have had a doubles team advance to the final 16.

Jenkins and Thompson now have a 22-19 record overall as a doubles team. Jenkins and Thompson will play Joey Atas and Jeremy Wurtzman of Ohio State on Friday. Atas and Wurtzman are ranked 25th nationally.
