Clemson defeats UNC Asheville 3-1

CLEMSON, SC–Dane Richards scored one goal and assisted on another in leading Clemson to a 3-1 win over UNC Asheville in an intercollegiate soccer match at Clemson, SC Wednesday night.

With the win, Clemson is now 11-3-1 overall, while UNC Asheville falls to 4-10 this season.

Clemson took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute as Frederico Moojen scored his ninth goal of the year with assists by Tate Parrish and Bryson Moore.

The Tigers took a 2-0 advantage early in the second half (48:09) as Mark Buchholz scored from eight yards out off a corner kick by Richards.

UNC Asheville’s Edwin Wotortsi scored at the 73:06 mark on a penalty kick.

Richards scored his 10th goal of the season with 7:01 left in the match with an assist by Michael Brooks to make it 3-1.

“I’m happy to be back at home and get a win against a good UNC Asheville team,” said Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair. “I’m happy that were creating chances, but we need to improve on our finishing. I’m happy with the way we played tonight. We played with more energy and we moved better offensively.”

Clemson will play at Boston College Saturday night and will play host to Duke on October 27, to round out the regular season.
