Clemson Defeats Maryland in ACC Women’s Soccer

CLEMSON, SC – Beth Keller scored the winning goal early in the second half in leading seventh-ranked Clemson to a 2-1 win over Maryland in an Atlantic Coast Conference women’s soccer match at Clemson, SC Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Lady Tigers are 2-0 overall, 1-0 in the ACC, while Maryland falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. Clemson is ranked seventh in the Soccer America poll and 14th in the NSCAA poll. Maryland is ranked 18th in the NSCAA poll, and 13th in the Soccer America listing.

Clemson scored first at the 28:34 mark as Lea Shreve centered the ball from the left. Julie Augustyniak immediately sent a ball to Alison Burpee who netted the ball from five yards out. This was Burpee’s third goal of the season.

Emmy Harbo scored for Maryland 10 minutes later. Carrie Klotz passed the ball to Keri Sarver. Sarver’s shot could not be controlled by Clemson goalkeeper Katie Carson, and Harbo knocked in the rebound.

Keller scored the game winner with 50:05 gone in the match. Burkett centered the ball from the left. Libby King’s shot was deflected by Maryland goalkeeper Riki-Ann Serrins and Keller knocked the ball in from close range.

Clemson will play in the Nebraska Invitational at Lincoln, NE next weekend in the Lady Tiger’s next action. Clemson will play Nebraka and Dartmouth in the Nebraska Invitational.
