Clemson Defeats Maryland 6-1

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson men’s tennis team defeated Maryland 6-1 in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s tennis match at Clemson, SC Sunday.

With the win, Clemson improves to 17-5 overall, and 3-4 in the ACC. The Tigers are ranked 43rd nationally according to the latest ITA poll.

Maryland falls to 13-8 overall and 1-6 in league play. The Terrapins are ranked 71st according to the latest ITA rankings.

After losing the doubles point, Clemson won all six singles matches including Derek DiFazio’s 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Maryland’s Tommy Laine at number one singles.

“Today’s match was very important to the team’s overall success,” said Clemson Head Coach Chuck McCuen. “I felt like we competed with great intensity which we had to have against a very competitive and well-coached Maryland team.”

Clemson will play at North Carolina on Friday and at Duke on Sunday in the Tigers’ next action.
