Clemson Defeats Gardner-Webb 7-0

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson improved its record to 5-0 on the season as the 53rd-ranked Tigers defeated Gardner-Webb 7-0 in a men’s intercollegiate tennis match at Clemson, SC Sunday afternoon. It was the season-opening match for Gardner-Webb.

At number one singles, Clemson’s Derek DiFazio defeated Julien Belair 6-2, 7-6. At number two singles, Freshman Gerardo Meza defeated Gardner-Webb’s Adam Knutsson-Sunblad 7-6, 6-4.

“I was expecting to play better today, and we did,” said Clemson Head Men’s Tennis Coach Chuck McCuen. “Our focus was great today. Having played a tough match yesterday, I was impressed with our physical and mental endurance. I thought we did a great job shutting them down.”

The Tigers will play #11 Georgia on Monday afternoon in Athens, GA at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts. Match time is set for 2:30 p.m. The match will be the season opener for Georgia.
