Clemson defeats Furman 4-0

GREENVILLE, SC–Katie Vogel scored one goal and had one assist as Clemson defeated Furman 4-0 in the first day of the Carolina’s Cup Women’s Soccer Tournament at Greenville, SC Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Clemson improves to 3-2 overall, while Furman falls to 2-3 this season.

Clemson got on the board in the 14th minute as Meghan Smith crossed the ball in the box. The pass deflected off a Furman defender and into the goal for the own goal.

Katie Vogel scored for the Lady Tigers at the 38:33 mark into the match. Vogel received the ball after a clearance and sent a 16-yard shot into the net for her first goal of the season.

The Lady Tigers took a 3-0 advantage in the 78th minute as Vogel crossed the ball in the box. Nuria Zufia headed the pass in the goal, for her second goal of the season.

Amber Funk scored her first goal of the season as she sent a 35-yard shot into the right corner of the goal to give the Lady Tigers a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers will play Charlotte in Greenville, SC Monday evening in the second day of the tournament at 5:00 p.m.
